What is Grass Fed Beef?

Grass Fed Cows are raised using the “old ranching methods,” feeding them food that is as close as possible to their native diets. No corn, feed grains, animal or industrial feed byproducts are used to finish the beef. They do not implant the animals with hormones or feed them growth-promoting additives. Animals raised on pasture live very low-stress lives. As a result of their superb nutrition and lack of stress, they are superbly healthy. When eating Grass Fed Beef you are eating food that is nutritious, wholesome, and delicious.

Why Grass Fed Beef is Better

A Fraction of the Fat

Grain Feeding developed as a way to speed up the growth process in cows. However, as a result of the diet, grain fed beef ends up with a great deal more fat, known as “marbling” laced throughout the meat. In contrast, cows raised the way nature intended generally have one third to one half the amount of fat as their grain fed counterparts.

All Fats Are Not Created Equal

While Grass Fed Beef is low in bad fat, it is actually one of the best sources for the good fats that we all need, including Omega-3 Fatty Acids and conjugated linoleic acid or CLA. Studies have shown that the American diet is generally deficient in these valuable nutrients that have been linked directly to better brain function, better heart health and a decreased risk of cancer. Note however, that these fatty acids are the bi-product of a grass diet and levels are significantly reduced as soon as the grass diet is replaced.

Getting Your Beef Au Naturale

Cows are meant to graze on grasses and other edible natural growth. When cows are taken from their natural habitat, placed into confined quarters, and forced to grow at unnatural rates, more medical intervention is required just to keep the animal healthy. By keeping cattle in a pastoral setting, they are allowed room and time to lead natural stress free lives without all of the hormones and antibiotics.
