our story
At JH Grass Fed, we believe that exceptional beef begins with respect—for the land, the animals, and the community that sustains us. Rooted in the Holbrook family’s multi-generational ranching legacy, our operation blends traditional methods with thoughtful innovation to raise cattle on over 70,000 acres of Arizona rangeland. From sustainable grazing practices to local partnerships and dry-aged processing, every step of our process is designed to preserve natural resources, elevate quality, and reflect the integrity of the state we call home.

2010
The Seed Was Planted
The idea for JH Grass Fed began with a simple question: How can we raise cattle naturally, ethically, and sustainably? We spent the year researching suppliers, grazing sites, and the feasibility of building a grass-fed, grass-finished beef business from the ground up.
2011
First Steps on the Land
We purchased our first small herd—just 10 to 15 cows—and secured grazing rights in Cave Creek and North Phoenix. It was the beginning of something deeply rooted in care, community, and stewardship.
2012
Growing Roots
As the herd grew, so did our vision. We officially formed our LLC, established government land leases in Mayer, Arizona, and began selling at local farmers markets throughout Phoenix and Cave Creek. Our commitment to quality and transparency found its first loyal customers.
2016
Expanding the Table
We broadened our offerings to include lamb, chicken, and turkey—sourced from trusted Arizona ranchers and farmers who share our values. We also partnered with a small, family-run business that fishes the Alaskan ocean for wild-caught fish and shellfish, bringing even more responsibly sourced proteins to our customers.
2024
A Heartfelt Loss
We lost John Holbrook—beloved founder, husband, father, grandfather, and the heart behind JH Grass Fed. His legacy lives on in every pasture, every handshake, and every product we offer.
2025
Carrying the Legacy Forward
Today, we continue to grow and adapt in a changing economy, always guided by John’s vision. Every decision we make honors his commitment to integrity, community, and naturally raised food.
